It is so commonly asked, that I will just do a preemptive answer. I am one person. I am not Kathryn. Then how did it come to be named Kathryn's Gallery? Growing up I had a doll named Kathryn.
I love vintage fashions and dolls. Growing up in the Rocker era most of the fashions had shades of pink in them (not a big fan). I have been collecting vintage since about 1995. Since I grew up in the Superstar Body Era (only Barbie mold available), anything vintage was bought second hand either from rummages, shows, or eBay. I grew to love vintage instead of making fun of the Mod and Best Buy era.
Since I have only been able to afford items in played in/poor condition I started making my own versions of the fashions. However, I am not a big fan of just copying. I could save and just buy the real thing. Boring…. And requires patience. I like to change fabrics or colors, or both actually. Despite enjoying making them I was running out of steam (same fashions over and over). Then I saw the lovely 50th Anniversary dolls at TRU. Ah!!!!! I remembered my love of the glittery, flimsy, cheaply made Superstar fashions and the crazy 80’s fashion. To be honest, the Rocker Barbie was one of my first Barbies that BELONGED TO ME. She wasn’t one I borrowed from my sister. I am now studying these fun fashions for recreation.
I have been creating since I can remember. My outlets have changed, and come back around again. Through it all, I feel alive and connected to the world when I am sewing, creating jewelry or drawing. This is my passion. This is who I am.
